Electronic Ecstasy

Deep drum beats, airy vocals, and perfectly placed synths are what you can expect from UK group Ecstasy, with definite  similarities between Naked & Famous, Dom, & Passion Pit. Major digs.

For a bit more of an anthemic sound, enter their track “White Limos”

Kiss The Doldrums Away

Remember the time we saw Superhumanoids & the guitarist dedicated a song to the only 2 blondes smoking & then tossed us rolling papers? One of the many reasons I like them. A totally reworked version of a pretty aggressive NIN song (I want to break it up/I want to smash it up/I want to fuck it up..I want to watch it come down). Awesome.

Tonc Strikes Back

Du Tonc strikes back! I posted “Darkness” a while ago & they’ve 1-upped themselves with this track.

Jumping In

Tip of the cap to the Bemp for this  Owl Eyes track, it really does sound like the deep-cuts of the Drive soundtrack.

Crazy P(ete)

Another one in the hopper from Maximus, to what I first thought were called “Crazy Pete” ala Now & Then.

Crazy P brings the noise, brings the funk, “fusing slinky underground disco, deep electronic throbs, shimmering pop moments; this is dance music with a voice, a heart, and soul.” Couldn’t have said it better than the band. It’s called boogey fever!

All Aboard

Better late than never to the Boards of Canada train (like 20 years late), but I am hooked. This remix from Midland transports me to a Thai beach with a Singha beer. Or that’s just the 4PM slump talking.

Funky Fresh

Thank you Burning Ear Brandon! Hey Champ hitting all the right spots with this funky dance-electro track. Churns a buttery smooth groove indeed.

All The Lights

Refraining from posting Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” (soaking up as much 60′s hits as possible after reading Universal is trying to take all music pre-dating 1972 off the internet), and shifting gears to electro-pop threesome Little Daylight. The song’s style recalls a slo-mo Alpine or the lush synth-pop harmonies of Au Revoir Simone, jazzed for this show.

Message-In-A-Bottle Chic

In true fashion, while everyone clears out of the kitchen after dinner, you can find me and Daniel still at the dinner table  chatting away with an after dinner cocktail. Which 9/10 times will be port. Our amazing hostess offered some Broadbent Maderia 1996 and it was one of the better ports I’ve tasted. What else can be described as, “Gorgeous and sweet, with dried orange peel and toasted-hazelnut flavors, wrapped in caramel”? The bottle is also so neat, it’s very message-in-a-bottle meets stamp-chic.

Later Skater

“blues, country, rock, electro, jazz. This song is mind blasting.” Ya. The video’s not too bad either.
